BNP Vice Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu has firmly stated that anyone who denies the spirit of the 1971 Liberation War has no right to participate in elections in Bangladesh.

His strong remarks were made during a discussion event in the capital on Tuesday, March 11, where he served as a special guest.

Addressing the attendees, Bulu made his position clear: “Those who do not recognize 1971, those who deny the Liberation War, have no right to ask for votes in this country. They have no right to contest elections.”

He expressed concern that if elections are delayed any further, fascist forces could rise, and if any unforeseen incidents occur, the interim government will be held accountable.

Bulu attended the discussion organized in remembrance of former Minister Mashiur Rahman Jadu Mia, marking his 46th death anniversary.

During his speech, he praised Jadu Mia, calling him a true patriot and politician.

Bulu said, “Whenever the country faces a democratic crisis, we need leaders like Jadu Mia.”

Reflecting on past events, he added that after the 1/11 political crisis, the Awami League had established what he described as a “fascist government.”

He called for unity among all political groups to form a national government and mentioned that soon, a roadmap would be presented.

He pointed out how some former advisors had resigned, formed political parties, and used government resources and funds for their own political gains.

Furthermore, Barkat Ullah Bulu touched on the presence of secret organizations, referring specifically to the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, who he claimed had once been involved in Chhatra League politics.

He argued that anyone who does not respect the foundation of the country, rooted in the Liberation War of 1971, is unqualified to ask for votes in any election.

In his concluding remarks, Bulu expressed hope that necessary reforms would be made promptly to allow for swift elections.

Also speaking at the event was fellow BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu, who emphasized the role of Jadu Mia in establishing democracy in Bangladesh.

Dudu expressed confidence that under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, democracy would be restored in the country.

“To save the country, we must follow the path laid out for us. The BNP is a party that believes in elections, and I call for an electoral roadmap to be introduced soon,” Dudu said.

Bulu’s strong remarks and call for reforms come at a crucial time as the country faces increasing pressure for fair and timely elections.
